Pre-school is a planned education program for children in the years before they start school, usually from the age of 3yrs-5yrs. Although early childhood education in Australia is not compulsory, it can make the transition to school life easier. As well as learning basic skills that will prepare them, they can also benefit from the socialisation with other children their age. It is also advisable if you want them to attend a particular school in that area as some preschools act as feeders for ‘big’ school. Pre-school generally runs between 9am-3pm – similar to school hours with the option to send your child 1-5 days per week. Some pre schools run for longer hours from 7.30am to 6pm, which is a good option for working parents.
