Bushwalking
The Bibbulmun Track
The walk from Kalamunda to Albany is 1000kms and 49 camp sites but also has a number of shorter trails and sections for those who do not want to attempt such a huge walk. This walk has great significance to the aborgines and is part of the Aboriginal Dreaming. The walk meanders through towering karri and tingle forests, valleys alive with bird song, past giant granite boulders and pretty coastal heathlands.
The King Jarrah Track at Lake Poole Reserve is 18km of loop that will take 5 hours to trek through. The highlight is the walk along the Murray River and its swimming holes and the 250 year old King Jarrah tree. For a lazy couple of days there is a campsite half way along the walk.
Black Boy Ridge Walktrail
The Black Boy Ridge Walktrail in the Chittering Valley is only a one and a half hour family type walk but is spectacular in spring when the famous Western Australian wildflowers are in full bloom. The hillsides are covered with wattles and tiny orchids and there is a predominance of black boy trees.
