Skiing

For those who love skiing there are some really good alternatives not far away. Mt Buller, Mt Hotham and Falls Creek are the major Victorian ski resorts which offer world class skiing when the snow is fresh but also gentler slopes for beginners. They have great instructors and fun activities. They also have great après-ski activities with plenty of bars and restaurants, often with roaring fires, to keep the crowds happy. Falls Creek is famous for it’s beautiful ski village and has an incredible number of cross country trails .It has 14 ski lifts and is the largest resort in Victoria.  Mt Bulla, only three hours from Melbourne is the party centre and is incredibly friendly. It also offers great back-country skiing. Mt Hotham is perhaps the best place to ski and even offers accommodation above the chairlifts which you can ski to.  It is steep and offers 50ha of back-country skiing. For family friendly skiing then Mt Baw Baw, only two and a half hours from Melbourne offers beginner and intermediate runs and plenty of off-piste activities such as tobogganing and snow-shoeing. Lake Mountain, only 120km from Melbourne is the play centre with tobogganing, snow-shoeing, tubing, sled riding and 37km of trails. It is a very affordable way to enjoy the snow if you are not an expert.
