Childcare is available for children in Melbourne and Victoria from as young as 6 weeks at some child care centres with the option of all day or part time care. Usually care for very young children is significant due to the legal staff/child ratios imposed on caring for children younger than 3 yrs old. Family Day Care is with carers who look after children in their own home. Children will enjoy a smaller more personalised care but without the facilities that the larger childcare centres have. Nannies are an alternative and either live in or live out . Their working week usually ranges from 40-60 hours per week. Au Pairs is another option to explore and live with the host family. Au pairs receive a small allowance in exchange for childcare and some housework.
