Darwin is the capital of the Northern Territoryand home to almost 82, 000 people.  Darwin is cosmopolitan and multicultural which becomes very obvious in the many cultural festivals, rich variety of food from all over the globe and the craft markets which showcase work drawn from many lands.  Darwin's traditional owners, the Larrakia people, are also heavily involved in the community.

Darwin’s weather is mild with abundant sunshine from May to September  and later the monsoonal season sees rain falling between December and March. This is when there can be spectacular storms and wonderful lightning displays.

Darwin is  seen as Australia's gateway to South East Asiaand is the main service centre for many industries including mining, offshore oil and gas production,  tourism, agriculture and tropical horticulture. The Port of Darwin is pivotal to  Australia's live cattle export trade into South East Asia.
