Destination Shopping in Canberra
Canberra has 3 city centres; Civic, Belconnen and Woden and at each of these hubs you will find your popular mainstream shops as well as either a Myer or David Jones department store. However for destination shopping and a bite to eat I would head to an area called Kingston.
If you visit on a Sunday check out the Old Bus Depot Markets will allow you to find an array of treasures. An indoor market with over 200 stalls offering all sorts of handcrafted items for sale. The markets have a contemporary feel with local and regional artists selling their beautiful wares here – jewellery, soaps, bags, clothes, art, homewares and the food too is delicious. You can eat your way around the markets or purchase delicious local foods to take home and cook up a storm with fresh local ingredients bursting with flavour. Before you head home make sure to grab a bite at the famous Brodburger! Brodburger started operating out of a little red caravan as a mobile hamburger van around Canberra’s civic centre. It was extremely popular with the locals however the government wanted them to take on a more permanent location . Brodburger is now set up permanently at the Canberra Glassworks with the little red caravan a permanent fixture out the front. Open for breakfast, lunch or dinner you can wonder around glassworks while waiting for your take-away order or take your food down by the lake. It’s a must visit. Before you venture out of Kingston drop into the Silo Bakery. The breads and pastries here are absolutely delicious. You have to taste it to believe it – delicious!!
