TAFE stands for Technical and Further Education. The courses offered are called VET courses and offer vocational tertiary education that can help you get a job or a place at University. The courses are mainly practical and result in certificates, diplomas and advanced diplomas. No previous qualifications are required other than finishing school to Year 10,11 or 12 . These courses are often shorter and less expensive that University degree equivalents.
- certificate I–IV —offer industry-specific introductory skills and training such as communication, teamwork and literacy and numeracy. Courses vary from a couple of weeks up to two years.
- diplomas — these courses lead the way for enterprise, industry and para-professional careers. Diplomas require between one and two years of full-time study.
- advanced diplomas —provide a high level of practical skills for specific career areas, such as accounting, engineering or building design. and require 18–24 months of full-time study.
- vocational graduate certificates/diplomas —are the equivalent of the higher education graduate certificate or diploma. They provide high level employment-related skills and knowledge. The graduate certificate can require 6–12 months of full-time study and the graduate diploma 1–2 years.
