In ACT schools catering for children with specific disabilities as well as schools which specialise in certain areas, such as sport, music or performing arts are avilable throughout the state.

 

Deaf or Hard of Hearing Support Schools in ACT

There are two schools which offer special support units:

Physical/Mental and Learning Difficulties – Schools in Canberra

There are different types of education options in Canberra for children with physical disabilities, mental disabilities, learning difficulties and behavioural problems.

Education support is found within mainstream schools and is under the control of the principal of that school. They generally cater for students with the lowest level of support requirements and who integrate with the mainstream students for some of their educational program.

 

Special Schools which cater for children with disabilities.

The Hospital School caters for students from preschool to Year 12 with short term, long term and chronic illness. The school is based at The Canberra Hospital in the Paediatrics ward.

 

Specialist School programs

Cranleigh and Malkara Schools are specialist primary schools for students with a moderate to profound intellectual disability, or Autism Spectrum Disorder who require intensive levels of support.

Turner School operates as a primary school with a predominant enrolment of mainstream students and a substantial enrolment of students with disabilities. Students who access the Disability Education program at Turner meet the ACT criteria for intellectual disability or Autism Spectrum Disorder.

The Woden School is a specialist setting for students in years 7 to 12 students with an intellectual disability or Autism Spectrum Disorder.

Telopea Park School, Lycée Franco-Australien de Canberra is a bi-national French-Australian school.
