There are some wonderful educational opportunities here with over 450 private schools in Queensland and more than a third situated in the Brisbane metropolitan area. The main options of private schools in Queensland are, Independent schools and Catholic Schools. Both types are fee paying, although Catholic school fees are often substantially less.

Independent Schools- Many of the independent schools are single sex schools and often have boarding facilities. Independent schools often have a link with the church or sometimes an alternative teaching philosophy ( e.g Montessori or Rudolph Steiner).  Some independent schools in Queenland offer the IB (International Baccalaureate) which is also popular with temporary residents because of  its portability. There is prestige associated with attending private schoosl but the high fee structure is prohibitive for some families. Despite the enrolment fees, demand is high, especially for those considered the ‘best’ schools for which some parents enrol their children at birth. It is important to enrol as early as possible as spaces tend to be sparse, particularly for boys and in the earlier years of school.

Catholic Schools- Catholic schools fees are usually considerably lower than in other private schools. Although the majority of students accepted are Catholic, the schools will accept non-catho;ic students but those students should expect a strong religious ethos.  Most Catholic schools will take Catholic students as a priority and will ask for the baptism certificate and evidence of living within the parish zone.
