If you are moving to Queensland and you need childcare you will pleased to know that it is widely available for children from as young as six weeks old at some Child care centres. You will be able to selct either all day or part time care but the cost can be quite high due to the legal staff to child ratios imposed on caring for children who are under three years old. Another good option is Family Day Care which is made up of a group of carers looking after children in their own home. There is some flexibility so that it can be just before and after school type care or part time or full time, just for when there is an emergency or just during vacation. This is a more personalised option compared to a child care centre but remember that there will be limited facilities (playground/climbing frames etc). Nannies who are mainly sourced through nanny agencies may be an option on a live in or live out basis and their working week ranges from 40-60 hours per week. Au Pairs are something else to consider and they live with the host family and will receive a small allowance in exchange for childcare and some small household tasks.
