TAFE stands for Technical and Further Education. They offer practical courses focused on workplace skills and training in industry. These VET courses offer certificates and diplomas which will can assist university entrance or help you to get a job. These courses are usually shorter and less expensive than university degrees. No prior qualifications are required other than having completed school to years 10, 11 or 12.
- certificate I–IV —introductory skills and training which is industry specific,skills, communication, literacy and numeracy, and teamwork. Courses run for a few weeks up to two years.
- diplomas — these courses prepare you for industry, enterprise and para-professional careers. Study is full-time and it takes between 1 and 2 years to earn your Diploma.
- advanced diplomas —are for people looking for career specific practical skills in areas such as engineering, accounting or building design.Some of these advanced diploma courses can also be completed at university level. Advanced diplomas in most cases require 18 months to 2 years of full-time study.
- vocational graduate certificates/diplomas — These are the equivalent of the higher education graduate certificate or diploma. They offer high level employment-related knowledge and skills and require 6-12 months of full time study for ther graduate certificate and 1-2 years study for the graduate diploma..
